The archery bow hunting season is quickly upon us and as we are busy scurrying around setting stands and mounting game cams, it might be a time to step back and take a deep breath.  I am specifically talking about taking a deep breath of the pure air and woods.  The smells of the woods are unlike any other and the joys they bring to the bow hunter.  One thing you can never forget is when you first smelled the freshness of the woods but more importantly WHO you were with.

Somebody took the time to take you hunting and it could have been a friend or relative.  It was at that point, while someone was sharing their Archery Bow hunting passion that lit the flame for me.  Last year I was very selfish with my hunting time and never once took my kids or my wife into the stand.  In a nutshell, all I did was take and not give anything back to my family or the sport I so dearly love.

It has been on my heart to take kids this pre-season.  I am dedicated to showing them everything I know, just as I was once mentored.  The amazing future of the sport lies in the hands of Youth Bow and I want to be dang sure they know how to properly hunt.  I have seen so many Dads & Grandfathers like myself, hog all the hunting time while the kids are back at home playing X-Box and eating potato chips.  What life lessons are we really offering to our future generation?  Ummm….let me see…..I am going to go out in the woods by myself where my soul comes alive and you kids stay home and become vegetables with video games.  Then once I get home, we will eat and talk for about 30 minutes until I go back out in the woods for sunset.

I know this may sound harsh but that is all I did last year on every archery bow hunting weekend.  I look back and feel so guilty but only by taking actions can you make a change!
