archery Sight Question?
Newbie here. Picked up a compound bow with a three pin sight. No instructions with it. How do you use the sight please?
Thanks!
If you have a peep sight on the string, you center the pin you are using in the center of the peep and shoot. But you will have to adjust the sight for your own shooting form. Each sight is for a different distance. The top sight will be for the closest distance and the bottom sight will be for the longer shots. Usually the 3 pins system is set for top pin- 20 yards- middle pin- 30 yards- bottom pin- 40 yards. And if something is 25 yards you would shoot the “gap” between the top pin and the middle pin. If the arrows do not hit where you are looking, you have to follow the arrow with the pin- for instance if you hit to the left of the target you would move the pin to the left until it hits where you are aiming at.Your problem will be that you will need to develop a proper shooting form before you can accurately adjust your sights. Because if you are new to the sport you will shoot all over the place at first until you master the basics of it.I would suggest you just set one sight to hit the target from a fairly close distance until you get everything down pat. Then you can set the other sights for greater distances or keep it simple and just use one sight- merely aim a little high at targets farther away and a aim a little under at targets close to you. It’s going to be a world of fun and you will see an improvement on a weekly basis as you master the techniques of bow shooting.Look at it as a challenge to get better and better. At some point you will be extremely satisfied as you see your arrows all hit the target and touching each other because your groups would be so tight. Good luck to you!
