Bodybuilding and the Olympics: a controversy

The debate on whether bodybuilding should be an Olympic sport has raged for years between the community bodybuilding and those interested in the Olympics. Ardent fans argue that weightlifting is an Olympic sport for years, so why not bodybuilding? For hardcore fans, bodybuilding and the Olympics seems to be a perfect fit, and questions like "Why Do not just bodybuilding an Olympic sport? Are regularly distributed.

Perhaps the most revealing question to ask are "is the ability to be an Olympic sport?" Y "would make a bodybuilding Olympic sport at the Olympic Games help?

Bodybuilding and the Olympics: Why is no longer an Olympic sport

In the current Olympic program consists of 35 sports disciplines and 53 400 events, ranging from archery to weightlifting and wrestling. The base of fans of bodybuilding, competitors and sponsors are not willing to cross-level Olympic Games. The obstacle is the International Olympic Committee and the UCI, which simply that according to their criteria, weights is not a sport and there is no place in the Olympics.

This position raises the question, "what determines a first sport place? . A simple definition of the Australian Sports Foundation says that sport is "a human activity capable of achieving a result requiring physical exertion and / or physical skill which, by their nature and the organization is competitive and is generally accepted as a sport. "

No doubt This definition is part of bodybuilding, and we believe that should be enough for the IOC. However, the main problem of the IOC with weights that allows the abuse of drugs in problems of the Olympic Games. They argue that prevent widespread use of doping in bodybuilding bodybuilders meet Olympic drug policies. There are rules strict and vigilant doping Olympic competitors, which will undoubtedly exclude many professional bodybuilders.

However, natural bodybuilding fraternity not to use performance enhancing drugs. The Olympics could defend their policies on drugs, allowing only natural bodybuilders in the Olympics. It also endorsed the tradition of the Olympic Games to be a competitive sport for amateurs, not professionals.

Another reason given by the IOC Olympic weight exclusion is that the trial in the competitive bodybuilding was too subjective to judge Olympic criticism. Given the controversy over judging subjective sports such as ice skating, diving and gymnastics this argument does not seem to hold water. In fact, the club seems to be a perfect fit!

How can Olympics help Bodybuilding

Since bodybuilding competition has never been a sports general public, including as an Olympic sport for sport would be better known and recognized. It would also make the sport more accessible, allowing people to learn more about bodybuilding, and possibly themselves participate.

Bodybuilding Olympics would also help in expanding the field of sports on the screen. Introducing bodybuilding, Olympic Games would encourage people of all ages to eat good food, work, get fit and look after their health. These messages are important in a world where many people are overweight.
Looking back at history reveals that the Olympics were introduced by the Greeks, who idolized and worshiped and tonic, the health agencies with a solid physical aesthetic.

Bodybuilding and the Olympics: The main argument against

Also Drug doping issue, perhaps the most important argument, including cons of bodybuilding in the Olympics is the subjectivity of judges and the fact that often there is no winner. While other Olympic sports such as ice skating are also in this category, the majority of Olympic sports feature winners either by time, distance, height or weight lifting. No one can pretend that mistakes have been made to judge when a competitor makes a clear case.

Although the jury is still out of bodybuilding and the Olympics, it seems for the moment at least, that the Olympic Committee does not intend to include bodybuilding as a sport Olympic. Although the Brotherhood is the ability ready and willing to step up to Olympic level, there appears to wait for some time yet.
