bow hunting crocs

What would you do with a newly discovered, uncontacted tribe?

These folks have never gone beyond basic woodland hunting and gathering, their highest technological device apparently being the bow and arrow. If you came across them (like these aerial photographers did) what would you do?

I don’t think introducing them to American Idol and buying them all a pair of Crocs is the best way to go, but what do I know….

Uhm… so would it be too geeky of me to mention the prime directive? Probably.

The way I see it, we here in our world haven’t exactly “figured it all out”. We still have war and strife and poverty and famine and any number of problems with no end in sight. This technology of ours seems to be a double-edged… uhm… erm… chainsaw…? Sure they don’t have pianos or cameras or the Beatles… but they also don’t have McDonald’s or alarm clocks or lawnmowers.

And many anthropologists believe that hunter-gatherer tribes enjoy an overall better quality of life than we do in our industrialized world. Of course there’s always the possibility of hardship and/or disaster, but in general they spend less time working to maintain the necessities of life, leaving more time for family and recreation.

And IF we back off and leave them be, maybe they’ll figure out how to create Utopia, ‘cuz we certainly haven’t.
