New at archery and looking for the right recurve bow?

Hi there. I am new to archery. My husband bought our boys bows this week and we took them to the range today. I tried shooting their bows and loved it. I am looking at getting a bow of my own but am not sure what is best for me. I am not into hunting, only target shooting. I love the look and feel of a recurve bow. I was able to try a Victory recurve 62″ with a 30# pull and loved it. I am looking at possibly buying a Victory 62″ bow or a Samich Deermaster 60″ bow. I was told that the Victory has adjustable poundage. Can anyone give me some advise on what is a good starting recurve bow?

First you need to find out what you like about target archery. Do you like to compete? If so, do you like barebow or sighted? A good starting recurve if all you want to do is shoot recreationally is very different than the one you’d need to be competitive. A 30 pound bow is fine if you just want to shoot for kicks, but if you think you might like to be competitive in the future, then you owe it to yourself to start properly and use at most a 20 pound bow. This way you won’t learn any bad habits that a heavy bow will get you into.

Next thing to figure out is, what is your budget for this new toy? Good thing about already finding a range is, you have lots of inputs there. Talk to other archers about their equipments. Most archers are more than happy to talk about their toys. Some even won’t mind if you give it a try. This is a lot better than going to a proshop. Most proshops are geared towards compound sales. At a range you’re talking to real archers with no sales agenda. Find out who is knowledgeable, it might take time, then pick his/her brain for info. Welcome to this addictive sport, hope you stick around.
