bow hunting night

coyote hunting at night? bow or shot gun?
in california you cannot use special lighting, first what is special and what is still a flash light, second. what is the best way to do so using calls and bait or what? thank you
They may mean no red light which would suck because that works better than a regular light.
But I would use the shotgun loaded with the dead coyote round its non-lead shot, and it takes them right out. Its not good much over 45 yards but I have had good results with it. A bow would work but looking for the coyote after you hit it in the dark may present problems. You hit a coyote with that heavy shot at 35 yards and hes dead right there. I dropped some around 50 yards with a full choke.
If you do use a light don’t use a super bright one just bright enough to see their eyes glow and their body clearly. This is where if you have an attached mag light on your shotgun and a head lamp of some kind you won’t spook them as much as a big spot light. Big spot lights are good for rifle range because its not near as bright at 80 yards as 30 yards. This is from my results in places I have hunted; every place can be a bit different. Because in some places they have been hunted and are wise to this.
Some of my answer didn’t post…….hmmm
Anyway if you call them in be in a hidden area or blind. Here are some guys who are on it;
And here are some ideas from a forum;
http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=173292
I set up my decoy which is a small kids stuffy about the size of a rabbit about 30 yards away on top of a flexible steel rod in the ground. Then I run a fishing line to it so I can move it from our blind. A remote call works best for this. Or you can call them in to you just be sure to be down wind.
They sell cheap remote rabbit distress calls that work about as good as the high dollar ones.
