To be or not to be … Martial Artist and Martial Athlete
The practice of various martial arts, I discovered that there is a big difference between being a martial artist and a martial athlete. Talking with teachers and teachers of different arts, I could see that many fear is good for the championship. Why this fear?
When learning a martial art, since it was created, for example, the original purpose, you realize that there are no rules in a real fight. It is one, indeed, survival. This does not mean that we must learn to "strike on hand, but in others there is a reason for art to be formed in this way, a whole philosophy behind the movement and the actual battle.
When you play sports and train for a championship, their only goal is winning. Then there are a lot of similarity with the traditional arts warrior, but for the martial art, mutilate their skills to adapt to the rules and competition rules. Important elements of knowledge must be put aside for the competition is healthy and no one will be paralyzed. But maybe, just parts of the martial art that he wanted to teach something to those who study and practice.
Personally I have great respect for athletes of any sport and I think that people who cause the body to the limit. I am by no means demeaning those who train martial arts championship. What I mean is that most of them, oriental arts, have developed a personal and spiritual growth and, ultimately, end up becoming in a battle of egos. Who better than who?
I practice martial arts a basic understanding of the word art. I try to understand my body, mind and fighting spirit by the knowledge that everyone can do without. And if you personally do not like the style of training for the championships, knowing that many ( majority) in their training is very helpful in my martial.
It is a matter of choice: be a martial artist or martial sport? Perhaps there is a way be both, but I, in my humble opinion, I do not see how. All teachers of different martial arts that I've met say that there is no specific training for those who compete in all competitions to participate requires total concentration of the rules and patterns of them. When the strike to mark the end tip over of combat, and so on, depending on the style each.
If training is not the same, the result probably will not. Focus on being better than their rivals, to achieve the first place. In a "normal" classroom, were not key areas but improve yourself every day.
All this also depends on the specific style of martial art, and I know nothing. In addition, the championship remains open only to the ways, bearings, defense techniques, etc. Many of these directly affect the arts, because they are the perfection of the movements of the participant.
Anyway, this post intended to express a bit of what I saw and ideas that arise in the head. These are things that directly affect my training and my options. Well my choice is art.
